The ABCDE’s of Melanoma

melanoma 300x191 The ABCDEs of MelanomaIf you’ve been watching the news lately you know that skin cancers are on the rise, especially the most dangerous ones. Despite the rise in sunscreen use skin cancer rates continue to increase for all.

It’s vital to know your own body and moles in order to protect yourself from developing a deadly case of skin cancer. Early detection with skin cancer (as with all cancers) is the best way to survive and thrive through this often deadly disease.

Since most of us have moles it’s not sensible to be afraid at all times, stay completely out of the sun, or run to the doctor for a check on every mole and every little change each one may experience.

Using the ABCDE’s to guide you in your knowledge of moles is a great way to stay informed and empowered in the fight against skin cancer.

The following are the ABCDE’s of melanomas:
A – Asymmetry. Most moles are symmetrical; if yours aren’t or it changes to be asymmetrical this is a danger sign.

B – Borders. Smooth, defined sides represent healthy moles; blurred, jagged, or changing borders indicate a potential problem.

C – Colors. Moles that aren’t a problem are usually one, uniform color. If you notice a variety of colors in your mole this could be a warning it’s melanoma.

D – Diameter. If you have a mole that is less than ¼ inch large these are usually not of concern. Melanomas are often bigger than ¼ inch.

E – Evolving. While moles can under slight, almost unnoticeable changes over a lifetime any noticeable or drastic change in a mole could indicate a problem. Also watch for changes such as bleeding, oozing, or the mole becoming crusty.

If you watch your exposure to sun, eat healthy (so your body is equipped to fight off all diseases,) and keep the ABCDE’s of healthy moles in mind as you examine your moles on a regular basis you can enjoy life and know you have the knowledge to protect yourself by taking action at the first sign of a problem with one of your moles.

This is something innovatively written. Keep it up. Short and sweet explanation. Malignant Melanoma is very dangerous type of skin cancer. It originates on skin. It can appear as a mole. Immediately diagnosing is very important, else it can worsen the situation. If anyone observes symptoms of it, should consult to doctor immediately.
